Historical Detail:
The Jane Hotel was designed by William A. Boring, the architect responsible for many notable buildings in New York City. When it opened in 1908, the hotel was known as The American Seamen’s Friend Society Sailors’ Home and Institute, and it provided affordable lodging for sailors and other seafarers passing through the bustling port of New York. The hotel’s location on the Hudson River waterfront was ideal for sailors, who could easily access their ships from the hotel.
In the early 20th century, the hotel was a hub of activity for the maritime community. During World War I, the hotel was used as a receiving station for troops returning from Europe. In the 1920s, the hotel became a popular gathering spot for artists, writers, and musicians, and it was renamed The Jane Hotel after Jane Addams, the social reformer and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Over the years, The Jane Hotel has undergone several transformations. In the 1940s, the hotel was converted into a single-room occupancy residence for seamen and longshoremen. By the 2000s, the hotel had fallen into disrepair and was on the verge of being demolished. However, a group of investors recognized the historic significance of the building and decided to restore it to its former glory.
Today, The Jane Hotel is a stylish boutique hotel that combines vintage charm with modern amenities. The hotel features 50 cabin-like rooms with shared bathrooms, as well as a rooftop bar and lounge that offers stunning views of the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline. We are proud to showcase our portfolio of prestigious clients, and The Jane Hotel is a true standout among them. In August of 2009, we had the privilege of supplying The Jane Hotel’s owner, Mr. Michael Staats, with a set of exquisite Regency style Anglo-Indian Silver Chairs featuring stunning Ram Head designs. These chairs have since become a hallmark of the hotel’s interior decor and are still in use today, gracing the Captain’s Cabin and many other cabins throughout the property.
As an iconic destination in New York City’s West Village, The Jane Hotel is renowned for its unique blend of vintage-inspired and eclectic design elements. Our Regency style Anglo-Indian Silver Chairs, with their classic lines and intricate Ram Head designs, are a perfect complement to the hotel’s overall aesthetic. They add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the space while also nodding to the hotel’s storied past.
It is a testament to the quality and timelessness of our designs that these chairs have remained a treasured part of The Jane Hotel’s interior decor for over a decade. Nautical and Vintage Glamour
The Jane Hotel has a unique connection to the Titanic, the legendary ocean liner that famously sank on its maiden voyage in 1912. In the aftermath of the disaster, the survivors were brought to New York City, and many of them were taken to The American Seamen’s Friend Society Sailors’ Home and Institute, which was later renamed The Jane Hotel.[read more]
